General anesthesia in a hospital setting is recommended for extremely apprehensive children, very young children, medically compromised children and children with special needs that would not respond well to sedation in-office. General anesthesia renders your child completely unconscious and the dental treatment is begun after your child is asleep. Having dental treatment completed under general anesthesia is similar to having ear tubes placed or tonsils removed at the hospital. Dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia requires the services of an anesthesiologist who specializes in general anesthesia in addition to the pediatric dentist performing the dental work.
Dr. Healy, Dr. Martin and Dr. White perform all general anesthesia cases at Wesley Medical Center. Please plan to arrive promptly at your assigned check in time as a delay in arrival may cause your child's appointment to be cancelled. Plan to park at garage north of the hospital. You will need to check in at Main Admissions (Admissions North).
