Erupting Molars Can Make Kids of All Ages Uncomfortable

Erupting Molars Can Make Kids of All Ages UncomfortableThe teething process in kids can be very uncomfortable. This is because it causes pain as teeth emerge through the gums. Erupting molars cause more pain because of their size and location. As a parent, you need to know how to handle this process and help relieve your kid's pain.

Pain During Molar Eruption

At the start of the teething process, the surrounding area becomes swollen and red. This is very common, and you've probably experienced it if your child has already grown some teeth. As much as the first front teeth are often the most sensitive, molars cause sharper and more intense pain. This is because they have a larger and duller surface area that makes the teething process more uncomfortable.

The level of pain tolerance varies from one kid to another, with soreness in the eruption area making it difficult to eat. As molars erupt through the gums, your kid might become very cranky no matter how tolerant they are. Some common signs of teething pain include sleeping problems through the night and refusal to eat. As a result, this can be a very stressful time for both you and your kid.

Luckily, there are several things you can do to help reduce the pain. For instance, you can change your kid's diet. If your child eats solid foods, you can switch to liquid foods that are softer and more comfortable. Cold or frozen foods could also help numb the pain. It is recommended that you go for foods that help counter the pressure of the erupting molars. This will make your kid more comfortable.

Furthermore, you can use pain-relieving medications, especially when your kid is undergoing immense pain. Remember to use only authorized medications for this purpose. Visit our offices for more information on why erupting molars can be quite uncomfortable for kids.
