Clean teeth and healthy dental hygiene practices are even important for your kid when they're wearing braces. Since braces can easily trap plaque and food, the chances of tooth decay can go over the roof when your kid has them on. If you want to minimize these chances, it is necessary that you follow these dental tips for taking care of kid's braces when they have them on.
Brush and Floss after Meals
The American Dental Association or ADA advises all people to brush their teeth two times a day and to floss before going to bed. While this is necessary for almost everyone, it is especially important for kids with braces on them. Kids with braces should preferably brush their teeth 4 times in a day; once in the morning, once after breakfast, once after lunch, and once after dinner. The extra brushing can clear away debris and plaque from the teeth and prevent damages to the braces.
Swish with Water after Eating
Kids with braces should be told to swish water around their mouth after every meal. This acts as a gentle technique to ramp up the brushing routine, as the swishing helps with clearing away any morsels or pieces of food caught in the teeth or braces.
Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly
Children with braces should replace their toothbrush every 3 to 4 months on a regular basis. This will ensure regular and clean teeth for a longer period. Toothbrushes do not last long when used by children with braces, since the surface of the brush collides with that of the braces, leading to abrasions on them. Hence, the toothbrush should be changed in a timely manner.
