Why Tap Water is Better for a Child's Dental Care
When it comes to water, you might think bottled water is better and that tap water is less pure. However, if you talk to us, you will soon find out that tap water has an ingredient that is lacking in most bottled waters, and that is fluoride. Not only does tap water wash away the sugars and bacteria that lead to tooth decay, it also strengthens the teeth. So, before you encourage your child to drink only bottled water, you need to consider tap water's key ingredient – namely fluoride.
Why Using a Water Purifier for Your Tap Water May Not Be All That Healthful
According to the Dental Research Journal, one research finding in the journal's July to August 2013 edition showed that the increasing use of water purification led to a significant finding. Both bottled water, which is often a purified version of a municipal water supply, and purified tap water are deplete of the minerals, such as fluoride, calcium, and magnesium – all which strengthen and support the teeth. The researchers of the published study collected four different samples of tap water. They were assessed before and after being passed through a home water purification system. The results revealed that the fluoride concentration, before purification, was 0.05-0.61 ppm. After purification, the fluoride was completely removed – with no amount of the mineral showing in the results.
While it is important that your child drink a large amount of water, you also need to make sure he or she receives their fluoride.
