What Are The Advantages Of Taking My Toddler To The Dentist

Having a toddler running around your house isn't always easy or fun. While toddlers can be fun and hilarious, they can also be challenging and frustrating. As a parent or grandparent, the thought of taking your toddler to the dentist may not be thrilling, but the sooner your toddler gets used to dentists and dental hygiene, the better their teeth will be in the long fun.
When Should the First Dental Visit Occur?
Ideally, you will want to take your child to the dentist when they cut their first tooth. For some babies, that means their dental visit will occur when they are around six months of age. If your baby has not gotten their first tooth by their first birthday, you'll want to go ahead and schedule a dental visit. If you schedule a dental visit before your baby becomes a toddler, they will be used to going to the dentist, and it won't frighten them.
Advantages to Dental Visits
One of the best reasons to take your toddler to the dentist is for the prevention of cavities and gum disease. If there is a problem with your toddler's teeth, gums, or palate, a dentist will be able to spot it. You are setting your child up for a lifetime of great dental visits the earlier you take them. Also, by taking your child early, allowing them to visit the dentist, looking at the tools that are used, and asking questions, you are helping to instill confidence rather than fear of dental visits.
If you visit the dentist regularly, it can't hurt to take your toddler with you so they can watch what happens. If mom or dad can sit in a chair and have their teeth cleaned and x-rayed, dental visits won't be so scary. That way, you and your toddler can both relax the next time you take them to the dentist.
